BioMMED Service

All BioMMED service functions are provided to LSU-based investigators on a charge back basis. Typically, LSU researchers are charged only the costs of supplies, while most of the personnel costs are provided via support of participating LSU units.

 Real-time Quantitative PCR

GeneLab maintains three Real-Time PCR instruments: two units are ABI 7900 Sequence Detection Systems and the third is the ABI 7500fast Sequence Detection System. All are in room 3212 of the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. The 7900 systems utilize a 384 well platform to facilitate high throughput and are available for use on a signup basis with a per run fee of $10 to cover the cost of maintenance and service. The 7500fast system utilizes a 96 well platform and will be available soon for use following the same signup procedure and per run fee as the other systems.

Applied BioSystems has developed two types of chemistries to detect PCR products using Sequence Detection Systems (SDS) instruments:

•TaqMan® chemistry (also known as “fluorogenic 5´ nuclease chemistry”)
   •SYBR® Green I dye chemistry

Genelab staff offers advice and training for users of these instruments. Contact Thaya Guedry for more information on how to schedule a run through Community Zero, a web-based scheduling tool.
