GeneLab now houses a SpectraMax M2 multi-detection Reader in room 3212 of the School of Veterinary Medicine. This instrument is a monochromator-based microplate reader that has 6- to 384-well reading capability as well as a built-in absorbance and fluorescence cuvette port. Dual monochromators allow selection of any absorbance wavelength between 200-1000nm, any excitation wavelength between 250-850nm, and any emission wavelength between 360-850nm. Endpoint, kinetic, spectrum, and multi-point well-scanning applications combining absorbance and fluorescence can be run with little to no optimization. The unit is available for use by all users at no cost. A log book is located near the instrument to track its usage, please enter in your run information. For more information, contact Thaya.

UPDATE
Faster Total Nucleic Acid Isolation From FFPE Tissues
Ambion® RecoverAll™ Total Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit

The Ambion RecoverAll Total Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit efficiently isolates all nucleic acids, including miRNA, from formalin- or paraformalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues. Up to four 20 µm sections, or up to 35 mg of unsectioned co re samples, can be processed per reaction. Recent improvements to the kit have reduced hands-on time and simplified the workflow, so that the isolation of nucleic acids from FFPE tissue is 67% faster and simpler than ever.

• RNA isolation time is reduced to 90 min
(30 min digestion + 1 hour processing time) from 4.5 hours (3 hour digestion + 1.5 hour processing time)

• DNA isolation time is reduced to 17 hours
(overnight digestion + 1 hour processing time) from 3 days (48 hour digestion + 2 hour processing time)
